A Future WIth Expensive Energy

From IDEO:

The IDEO Palo Alto play team cast this second of two videos in a future where the experience of play is shaped by the context of expensive electricity – where schools make it mandatory for children to play in order to offset the expensive fossil fuel charges. Essie, the main character, goes so far as to steal energy from a fellow student so that she can later animate her own pretend world, which is… entirely dependent on electric power.

Comment from Jon:

Cool video. It might seem a little silly, but in Africa, there have been a fair few projects where water wells are linked to playgrounds - playing on the roundabout pumps water up into a storage tower. Personally, i think that's a great example of combining play with production.
