55 Sheffield River Don Channel Clearance Work

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT (Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 as amended by SI 2005/1399 and SI 2006/618


The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the flood defences on the River Don in Sheffield between Rutland Road (NGR SK 34734 88627) and Jordan's Dam (NGR SK 40313 92103), a distance of 9 kilometres, at the locations listed below. The proposed improvement works will involve the following: Tree and sediment / shoal removal from the watercourse at:

Rutland Road Bridge
Norfolk Weir, Leveson Street
Sanderson's Weir – East Coast Road to Stevenson Road
Hecia Way – Stevenson Road to Newhall Road
Jordan's Dam – Blackburn Meadows

The Works will improve water flow through the city centre by increasing channel capacity and hence reducing flood risk.

The Environment Agency considers the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. Further details can be viewed in the non statutory environmental report at the address below.

Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 28 days of the date of publication of this notice.
